I need a vacuum unit for my TR6 and GT6 and none of the normal places have them. Does anyone know of a source for these or someone that can rebuild them?

Are we talking an advance or retard unit? My guess is we are talking retard. Typically, these start to leak around the seal on the actuator rod. This is so common that I wonder if it makes sense to lubricate this rod on occasion to keep the seal in good condition.
Anyhoo, you can try Triumphs Only (www.triumphsonly.com) to see if they have the unit, or if not they can send it out to have it reconditioned. What they do is split the capsule, fit a new diaphragm and rod seal, then apply a clamp to keep it all together. I had mine done at a place in Tuxedo NY, but I wouldn't recommend them since they were less than organized to deal with and they aren't in to British cars anymore.
Another thing you will need to check is the plumbing and operation of the TVS (thermal vacuum switch). This is a vacuum thingy installed somewhere in the radiator or upper (hot) radiator hose on Triumph cars of the period. The TVS senses water temperature, and when it's too hot, shuts off vacuum to the retard module. This advances the timing, speeds up the idle and increases cooling via faster water pump speeds. If the TVS is faulty, or if one or more of the ports are broken off, the system won't work. The TVS is NLA and scarce as a hen's tooth, so treat yours carefully.
Finally, failing all this, you can fit an advance module and convert your car to UK spec, but you will have to change the vacuum porting in the carbs to apply vacuum off idle instead of on it, as the US cars do.

I have solved my vacuum unit problem. The vacuum unit that I needed for the retard was not available anywhere. But with some minor mods the advance unit (Moss#163-630) from the early TR6-250 can be used. This is also the same unit found on Midget 1275cc distributors. The plugged hole on the distributor opposite the unit must be drilled out, then install as normal with an adjusting knob and spring. Now I have to see what I can come up with for the GT6.
